Ramada Plaza Resort vactions: Just say No!!!

This "free" vacation offer is kind of a scam. There's a lot of lying and false promises made by the sales people to get you to put down a non-refundable deposit on your "free" vacation. This money is only to cover a reservation fee and taxes and port fees supposedly. But they'll take your money, and when you want to actually book a date, they'll keep taking your money. Then they'll suggest that you should pay for an upgrade. That's more money.
With the package, you got 2 nights on the Bahamas Celebration cruise ship. This is a converted ferry that used to ply the waters between Europe and the Netherlands. It's a very bad cruise experience. Everything is bad. The food is bad. The entertainment is bad. The elevators are TINY. The cabins are bad. The casino is annoying. There aren't enough tables. The craps table is small, and they get on your case about how you throw the dice. The rooms are designed for day trip use or 1 short overnight type use and not for 2 nights. But the rooms were probably the highlight of this ship. (Which isn't saying that they were good, though. There's a big water slide on the ship, but only kids under a certain age can use it, so it's that's not very fun. It's all just a huge bait and switch. It's just a huge waste of money. If I was able and I took all the money I was scammed out of and transferred it to a cruise with NCL or Carnival, it would have been a much nicer cruise.
The food is horrendous. Many items are not edible. There was a soup that was particularly gross. And I think it was supposed to be like a clam chowder or lobster bisque or something that sounds really good. The items that can be eaten are of mediocre quality. Basically, there was a hot dog that was okay. Mac and Cheese wasn't bad. They didn't screw up a plain ham sandwich. Bags of potato chips were okay. Anything they prepared was bad.
And on Nassau, there wasn't that much time to do that much, and the excursion choices around Nassau have gotten more and more expensive, with less real quality. I get the impression that the Nassau area is better for the actual overnight tourist who is staying at a hotel or at Atlantis. It's not that great for the cruise passenger. The straw market was lame. I purchased some Russian bootleg DVDs for fun at $5 per movie.
But there wasn't any convenient grocery style shopping where you could get soda or anything to get us through the horrible food on the ship. We found a high priced convenience store which didn't really save us much money.
On to the hotel: The Ramada maingate west hotel in Kissimmee 7491 West Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway. There's a Ramada on the south side of the street as well. They are not affiliated in any way except that they are both Ramadas and the central Ramada reservation system can make reservations for you at either hotel.
This hotel would be worth $30 per night to stay there. (That was the going rate when I paid cash on 2 nights when I wasn't staying there as part of the time-share sales package). However, they charge ALL GUESTS a resort fee of about $20 per night. It's a ridiculous bait and switch. They do this because the bulk of their guests are coming from the time share presentation and the other guests love the idea of a $30 per night hotel. So, they almost double the price of the room per night. You could almost upgrade to a Disney value resort for that much.
Their indoor pool was okay, but the layout of the bar right next to it, and the way they had a narrow walkway was very awkward. Also, they attempted to decorate or do a little bit of decor, but it was another awful attempt. It just reeked of being cheap. But at closer to $60 per night with the "resort" fee, this hotel doesn't come close to being worth it. Yet they are relatively full on most nights. They also had an outdoor pool right next to all the garbage and kitchen back door. It was gross back there even though there was a fence between the pool and the gross stuff, it wasn't attractive in any way. It was a total afterthought done to make it look like this was a nicer hotel than it really is in brochures or in marketing materials.
The rooms were much larger than a value resort room like at Pop Century or one of the All Stars inside disney, but the linens were gross and cheap. The furniture was constructed of a laminate over particle board. I'm not a snob who requires true hardwood furniture in a hotel. But their furniture was falling apart. The laminate was peeling back, and the chairs were broken. Not so much that you couldn't use them or sit in the chair, but enough that it was noticeably not functioning right. The rooms were probably the highlight of this hotel. Again, this isn't saying very much.
So all in all, the "free" vacation cost almost $800 before I left for vacation, and for that I got 4 nights in the Ramada and 2 nights on the boat. Once on vacation it was probably another $100 spent on the boat for mandatory gratuity and the bar bill (I bought a few beers and soda). Then at the ramada, it cost about $80 for the 4 nights.
So, for just the hotel and a 2 night cruise it cost almost $1000. This was a huge scam and not worth it from the get go. I would stay away from any time share presentation offer completely. You don't get something for nothing. There's always hidden charges at the last minute and there are up front charges as well.
Stay away from the Bahamas Celebration. For slightly more money you can get on a real cruise ship, and for a lot less money you can just not go on a cruise. Not going on their boat is probably preferable to going on their cruise at any price.
Stay away from Ramada Maingate West. They have a bait and switch on the price of the room with their resort fee. Their pictures are totally misleading and don't show how shabby everything really is. If you look at pictures online there's no people in the pictures to give you any perspective on how small things are. I even ate there because I had some vouchers. It was pretty bad. I still had to pay tax and tip. (And it was a tip on a buffet.) McDonald's would have been more appetizing. Oh yeah; they also have nightly karaoke right in the atrium area that a lot of room back up to. This wasn't a positive attribute.
