I like many of you have passed the Fantasy of Flight attraction on I4 and heard from the back seat "dad, when are we going there?" so recently we spent an afternoon at the attraction. I didn't know what to expect and I had little hope that the attraction would be of much interest to my kids and wife but I was actually very surprised that they totally got into the whole thing. I think the biggest misconception is that the attraction is not very entertaining in a land of theme parks like Universal Studios and Disney World but my family was wow'd as soon as they got out of the car and saw a vintage aircraft take off over their heads. I myself was still skeptical how the day would go but I was trying to remain optimistic.
Proceeding into the main hangar through the gift shop / restaurant we were taken a back by the grand scale of everything. The only way I can explain the feeling is like being next to a giant. The aircraft are only roped off by a few feet so you can get very up close and personal and one of the bigger planes even has stairs leading up so can actually board the air craft and see how early airliners operated.
The attraction also offers outdoor displays and aerial demonstrations along with behind scenes looks at the restoration process. The demonstrations are very entertaining but what I liked even more was the sense of history you get being in the art deco facility. I don't think my kids even realized they were learning about history. The attraction also offers many hands on displays and simulators which are sure to entertain even the most reluctant teenagers.
I genuinely enjoyed our day the attraction and plan to return for one of their special events like Roar n' Soar or take a ride in a bi plane (I was to chicken on this trip ;-).
