From the moment you walk in, to the moment you leave, there is something amazing around every corner! To begin my family's journey at WonderWorks, we parked in the Pointe Orlando parking garage conveniently located directly behind the WonderWorks building. Parking is reasonable at $6 for the day. This building is nearly impossible to miss! Located on International Drive, this upside-down building has character all of it's own. Why is it upside down? Well they say that WonderWorks started as a top secret research laboratory located in the Bermuda Triangle. The world's best scientists led by Professor Wonder, were given the task of creating a man-made tornado! Unfortunately, the experiment became out of control and ripped the building from where it stood and carried it thousands of miles until it dropped it upside-down where it stands to this day. Surprisingly all the experiments stayed in tact and functional, therefore WonderWorks was born! All the details make WonderWorks come to life, such as the creaking sounds to simulate the building moaning and groaning, to the upside-down atmosphere when you first enter. To be part of the fun however, you must first be turned right-side-up! So after you acquire your discount WonderWorks tickets, step inside the inversion tunnel which properly aligns you for the family fun that awaits.
After exiting the inversion tunnel, step out onto the 1st floor. Some of my family's favorites on this floor was the Earthquake Simulator, the Hurricane Simulator, the Titanic Exhibit, and an amazing illusion that tricks your mind into thinking that water droplets are defying gravity and floating in mid-air! Go ahead and reach out to touch the water!
Next we headed up the stairs to the second floor which held many more wonders for us to explore. First we went to the Bubble Lab which was probably our favorite exhibit because we could make GIANT bubbles! Some other favorites included the Wonder Wall, Bed of Nails, Jump Simulator, and Mind Ball. In Mind Ball, a headband is tied around your head to capture brain signals. The less brain signals (the less you are thinking) you have will push the ball to the opponents side. The person that pushes the ball to the opposite side first wins! As we ventured deeper in the oddly shaped room we came across some more cool gadgets and gizmos such as a piano you play with your feet, the Sound Lab, and a One in a Million purple bead exhibit!
Now it was time to enter the Control Room. This room is themed mostly after space and it's adventures. Here you can try out the Wonder Coaster, a virtual experience where you construct your own personal roller coaster and ride it as a robotic arm twists and turns 360 degrees in every direction! Better get out you camera! The Control Room is a great spot for pictures!
After we were finished on the 2nd floor we headed on up the stairs to the 3rd level, the Basement. Got some extra time on your hands? No problem! The stairs are practically lined from top to bottom in illusions that will make you second guess what you are looking at! The Basement is where you will most likely spend most of your time as this is where all the major attractions are at such as Lazer-Tag, the Ropes Course, and the 4D Ride not to mention a complete arcade including a prize counter! My whole family had a blast in Lazer-Tag (although it is an additional charge on top of general admission)! It's 10,000 square feet of pure fun! Lockers are available for $0.75 if you have anything you don't want to run with such as a drink or a large camera.
Next we headed on over to the Ropes Course. This attraction features 3 stories of beams, nets, and ropes to climb across. The only thing is your 12 feet of the ground and that's just on the beginning level! After anxiously waiting in line it's finally your turn. Take everything out of your pockets and place it into a free locker. Next, an employee will help you get your harness on and your ready to go! Remember, absolutely NO open-toed shoes or skirts are permitted on this attraction!
Finally, we got in line for the 4D Ride. This attraction seats 12 people (6 in front, 6 in back) and rotates between 3 different "movies" throughout the course of a year. Although it was worth a try, it wasn't all that great in my opinion although my siblings enjoyed it immensely.
If you purchased the Magic Combo, or the Ultimate Combo your experience is not yet over! The Outta Control Magic Comedy Show which is hosted by Tony Brent 6 nights a week has two show times, one at 6pm, and one at 8pm, reservations are required. Included in this show is unlimited beverages (including beer and wine), salad, pizza, and dessert. This is an amazing one-man show by Tony Brent that combines magic and comedy to create the perfect experience to top off your day at WonderWorks. What makes this show even more delightful is he calls up members of the audience to participate in the show! All in all, this is definitely worth the time and money in my opinion. This highly recommended show can be purchased separately and is one of the best dinner shows in Orlando. Tony Brent is an amazing performer and has material that pleases ages 1-100. The food is not the greatest but the show is worth it all on it's own. By the way, when Tony asks, "who said they needed a beer"? be careful before you respond or you might be part of the show!
